An extra blog for the Assynt Weekend

11-12 May 2024

Sandy wrote a short piece about the many walks undertaken.

On the Friday we all walked before enjoying a midge free al fresco meal (Lochinver pie). I tackled a lowly Graham, Beinn Bhreac near Leckmelm, John did a mighty three Munros including Beinn Dearg while the others walked the Cul Mor and Cul Beag.

Saturday saw Graham and I climb Canisp on a perfect day. Great views of Suilven, planned for Sunday. Highlight of the day was a sighting of a Ptarmagin sitting on its clutch - Graham was well chuffed and a great spot by him. The others bagged all three Quinag Corbetts.

Graham went back to Donside on Sunday for birding while John was off early to climb Ben More Assynt and Conival before returning home in the evening. We dropped Ken off to walk Ghlas Bheinn, a Corbett above the hostel, and the remaining three had a fantastic day on Suilven just returning to the car as the thunder rumbled.

The remaining four all walked on Monday on the return journey: Iain, Bill & Ken climbed Canisp while I walked another Graham near the Braemore junction, Meall Doire Faid.

And here is the amazing photo - it took me a while to spot it - can you?
