The Graham Pressendye

Sunday 10 December 2017

13 humans and 2 dogs met up in Tarland on a very cold, minus 8 degrees but sunny morning.

We were Gillie, Alan, Anna, Ali, Gordon, Jane, Bob, Jeff, Althea, Nick, Tim, Les, Moira, Dylan and Marley.

3 carloads went to the walk start near Boultenstone on surprisingly good roads. We set off at 9.30 with the sun just rising.

The going was icy sometimes but easy and we had a coffee stop at Lady Well in the comfortable hut, complete with hooks for our poles.

Soon we were enjoying great snowy views to the North with Tap o Noth, the Buck and Ben Rinnes to be seen.

We reached the summit at about 12.30 and to escape the cold breeze descended in to the heather a bit to eat our lunch in the sunshine.

On our descent we made the brief detour to the summit of Pittenderich hill looking back up at the summit of Pressendye.

The snowy patchwork of fields with Morven and Lochnagar ever present continued to give us wonderful views on our descent.

The return to Tarland goes through some lovely beech woods and beech avenues.

We got back to the square in Tarland at 2.30. One car took the 3 drivers back for their cars while the rest of us piled into 2 cars and headed to the Spider in the Bicycle coffee shop in Aboyne for tea and fine pieces, to be joined soon after by the drivers.

Coffee afterwards

A grand winter day out.
