Arrochar Weekend

Friday 19th – Monday 22nd August 2016

This was a weekend spent in the wrong place at the wrong time weather-wise, each morning we donned full wet weather gear at or soon after the start of walking. Yet, despite seeing cars unloaded with soaking people, boots and clothing the warden was always surprised when someone was bold enough to ask for the drying room to be switched on. For the majority of the time out on the hills there were no views other than of puddles, grass and grey. That said, those who stayed out longest enjoyed some clearing weather on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Bein an Lochain

10 of us stayed in the Inveraray Hostel, Linda and Paddy for 2 nights, Ali, Anna, Ruth, Susan, Gordon, Graham R, Neil and Tim for 3 nights and Jane from her campervan base joined us on some of the walks.

With the recent addition of Cnoc Coinnich to the list of Corbetts there are now 8 Corbetts in the vicinity of Arrochar. With the exception of the Cobbler – which was considered to be too adventurous in the prevailing conditions - all of these hills were climbed by at least 2 different groups from our party.

The Brack

The going was always hard work with long wet grass, overgrown trails, clear-cut forestry and steep rocky ground all covered. In total, some 40 or more new individual Corbetts were climbed and most objectives were achieved.

We enjoyed a sociable trip with self-catered food in the hostel as well as meals at the George and Inveraray Inn – the George getting top marks. The hostel is conveniently located on the edge of the village with all amenities within easy walking distance, it was fully booked each night we were there and has been similarly so throughout the summer months.
