Knoydart weekend

What a glorious weekend it was with apologies for not organising the usual attrocious DHC weather! For all 13 DHCers there was something for everyone.

We all met at Mallaig to await the 18.00 ferry to Inverie and 11 of us stayed at the Knoydart Foundation Bunkhouse run by Fiona whilst Anna and Tony stayed in the BnB next door.

Saturday morning arrived and it was dry and calm with promise of sunshine. Anna, Tony, Gillie, Alan, Chris and Moira headed off to climb Beinn Bhuide; they were joined for the first few kilometres by Iain and Robert (S) who were aiming for Luinne Bheinn and Meall Buidhe.

Jeff and Althea took their bikes for the first few kilometres and aimed to climb Beinn na Caillich. Bob set off to bag Ladhar Bheinn with Jane (her second time on this wonderful mountain) and Ali shouldered her large backpack and declared she was off to conquer Sgurr a' Choire-bheithe and would be back for the 18.30 ferry on Sunday! (And she did and she was!).

Sunday was even more glorious - we awoke to blue skies and little wind. Chris set off for Beinn na Caillich. Bob borrowed Jeff's bike and bagged Luinne Bheinn. Jane, Moira, Jeff, Althea, Anna and Tony walked up Sgurr Coire Choinnichean at the back of Inverie, Robert was off to climb Ladhar Bheinn whilst Iain, Alan and Gillie decided to give the hills a break and walked across to Airor to see the views from the other side. All succeeded in their missions - wonderful views were had by everyone.

Jane, Bob, Moira and Ali were waved off on the 18.30 ferry by Alan....

....but only got as far as Mallaig that night as the road to Fort William had been closed due to an accident and they ended up in the Seaman's Mission.... what some folk do to extend their weekend!

For those left on Knoydart to bag more hills, the day dawned slightly cooler and distinctly windier..... Chris, Alan and Gillie went up Sgurr Coire Choinnichean while Jeff and Althea took their bikes for a spin to Airor. Gillie and Alan didn't quite make the top of the Corbett - too windy and slightly too exposed.

We all agreed that Knoydart is an amazing place (the weather does help) and the Lookout restaurant - newly opened this year - was doing a sterling job.
