Crianlarich Weekend

There was a good sized group for the weekend with Ali, Susan, Ruth, Shona, Linda, Paddy, David, Graham Rebecca, Graham Neish, Chris and Me. Moira joined us for the Saturday night.

We stayed in the SYHA hostel in Crianlarich which was comfortable as usual. The weather forecast for the weekend had been poor with a cold wind and snow at high level but some of us did hills on the way down on Friday; Susan and Ruth doing Creag Uchdag, Graham R Creagan na Beinne south of Loch Earn and Robert Meall Ghaordaidh NW of Killin. The cloud lifted during the day and there was just the odd sleet shower.

Saturday started a bit cloudy and with a small amount of snow on the ground in Crianlarich but the intrepid Corbetters decided to have a go at the 5 Corbetts by Tyndrum, Beinn a Chaisteil, Beinn nam Fuaran, Cam Chreag, Beinn Chaorach & Beinn Odhar.

Chris headed off to the Mamores to complete a snowy Mullach nan Coirean and Stob Ban.

Paddy and Linda did Beinn nan Imirean and Shona a corbett in the Arrochar Alps.

David and I did An Caisteal and Beinn a Chroin.

As you can see from the photos the weather was superb with only occasional cloud on the tops, little wind but below freezing above about 800m. We needed crampons on the top of the Munros.

Most people were back by 5 pm for tea and showers. The Corbetters progressively peeled off from the 5 corbett challenge with Susan, Ruth and Graham completing all 5 getting back about 8.00pm. Moira joined us and most headed to the Ben More inn for supper.

Sunday dawned bright and clear and again people headed off to a variety of hills including: Susan, Ruth, Ali, Graham N and Chris to Beinn nam Imirean; Moira, David and Robert to Meall Glas and Sgiath Chuil; Graham R to Meall nam Maigheach; and Paddy and Linda to Greag Uchdag. The cloud filled in a bit but it was still a magnificent day with only a light wind.

Overall a very successful weekend and congratulations to Susan, Ruth and Graham for completing all 5 of the Corbetts.

Robert
